Arkansas becomes home to more immigrants each year.
Figures show that
Arkansas’:

1. Immigrant growth rate ranked 4th in the nation between 1990 and 2000.

2. Hispanic population grew the fastest in the U.S. between 2000 and 2005, growing 48 percent.

3. Immigrant population is 1/3 European or Asian.

4. Worker population is composed of 11.1 percent immigrants.

5. Immigrant population comes mostly from Mexico.

6. Immigration population is composed of 20 percent legal permanent residents and 51 percent undocumented residents.


Arkansas is home to more immigrants each year.
Figures show that in
Benton and Washington counties:

1. 38.3 percent of the state’s immigrant population in 2005 resided in the two-county area.

2. 62 percent to 78 percent of the area’s immigrant population is from Latin America.

3. 6 percent to 14 percent of Benton County’s immigrant population is from Asia.

4. 15 percent to 25 percent of Washington County’s immigrant population is from Asia.

5. The percent of Limited English Proficient children grew by 51 percent to 100 percent in Benton County and 101 percent to 200 percent in Washington County between the ’00-’01 and the ’04-’05 school years.

6. Had the fastest immigrant population growth rates from 2000 and 2005: 105.9 percent and 57.3 percent.


Employers -- Did You Know:

1. Demographers anticipate that by 2020, all growth in the U.S. Labor Force will be attributed to immigrants.

2. 79 percent of Mexican-born Arkansans between 18 and 64 work, outpacing the 77 percent of Native-born Arkansans.

3. 80 percent of naturalized citizens and 79 percent of legal residents in Arkansas work, compared 77 percent of native-born residents.

4. The Arkansas manufacturing industry employs 42 percent of immigrants in the state.

5. The number of immigrants working in Arkansas industries grew 201 percent from 1990 to 2000, outpacing the 15 percent growth in the native-born population.

6. The highest share of working immigrants (6 percent) is in Northwest Arkansas.
